This is the Practices new home, completed just in time to avoid the amendments to the law on General Permitted Development that would have put an end to the project, and just in time to allow us weather the financial storm.
A new floor added to the top of the house moves most of the private space up a storey and allows the Ground floor to be opened-up as a working office. An extensive Domestic Sprinkler system and a series of sliding screens permit the switching of room-functions throughout the day to keep the spaces a large and as light as possible as they are occupied.
The works were completed on a very tight budget, with 2 small-scale contractors (one having gone bankrupt during the construction) and required almost 24-hour supervision. The practice had to deal directly with all trades to reduce the build costs. Some of the work was carried-out in exchange for drawings.
The Architects share the space with a filmmaker and a new arrival to the family who s curious nature often requires the closing of sliding screens.
